LSS holds public lecture on legislative enlightenment

The Law Students' society , University of Ilorin has hosted the majority leader of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon Hassan Oyeleke, at the faculty.

The Honourable appearance was in pursuance to the public legislative lecture and inauguration of legislative equipments organized by LSS house of representatives.

In his lecture themed: "Role of students legislature in strengthening democracy in Nigeria," he implored Nigerian youth not to place too much value on material things but be agents of change. "Don't take my money, look at my  values; don't look at religion, ethnicity or any other thing. Nigeria situation is cancerous, be a model," he said.

The Dean of Faculty of law, Prof. A.A Oba, who was represented, by the Sub-Dean of Law Dr. (Mrs.) Abdulrasaq, said that, the public lecture was a good development and initiative especially at this period of democratic dispensation.

He commended the Students’ parliamentarian for their assiduous effort and urged them to be good ambassador.

LSS house of representatives, Rt. Hon. A.A Amadi, pointed out that Students Legislature should be heard and their view be given priority in any event of national policy implementation and legislations that borders on welfare of Students in Nigeria.

Speaking on the legislative process in Nigeria, Dr. Sambo, a Lecturer in the department of Public Law  acknowledged that the legislative arm is powerful, burdened with the duty of law making and general oversight. Nonetheless, there are some limitations to the power as outlined in the constitution.

He urged students not to relent in their strive towards better governance, for the "Not too young to run" bill is an example of such strive. "Laws are products of many interest, it could be political, social, economic and even selfish reasons." He said
