The management of the University of Ilorin has described the demand for the resignation of the Vice Chancellor of the University, AbdulGaniyu Ambali, by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, as “unwarranted” and “mischievous”.

In a press statement yesterday, the University’s spokesman, Mr. Kunle Akogun, said it was preposterous to ask Mr. Ambali, whom he described as “an excellent captain”, to quit, adding, “No excellent captain quits midstream”.

The Ibadan Zone of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), had called on Prof. Ambali to honorably resign his appointment to allow for an independent investigation of fraud allegations against him.

But Mr. Akogun, in his reaction, said the union was only bent on destroying the peace and progress of Unilorin simply because all attempts to hijack the progressive ASUU at Unilorin had been rebuffed
by the University lecturers.

“Dispassionate watchers of events at the University of Ilorin, especially since the University began to gain national prominence and acclaim as a socially responsible, generally peaceful, academically
excellent and qualitatively most sought-after citadel of learning in the country, are familiar with the antics of a few dissidents who are bent on taking us back to Egypt,” he said.

“Indeed, these enemies of progress cannot reconcile themselves with why a University would consistently receive national and international accolades!

“Within the last one year, the activities of these disgruntled elements are targeted at disrupting our well-known uninterrupted academic calendar.”

Commenting further, Mr. Akogun alleged that ASUU’s “unconscionable attempt to destroy the good image, which the University has toiled so hard to build over the years, will continue to fail and their ploy to divert management’s attention from its set goal of building a world class citadel of learning will not work!”

“The call on the Vice-Chancellor to resign based on some spurious allegations, is therefore unwarranted as it is mischievous,” he said.

« Last post by Abydeco on April 05, 2017, 04:17:51 PM »

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ibadan Zone, has called on the Vice Chancellor of University of Ilorin, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali.

ASUU wants the VC to step down to allow for an independent investigation of fraud allegations brought against him.

According to Pulse, The union called on the Ministry of Education, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) to "act quickly to avoid any insinuation of complicity."
In a statement by the Chairman, Dr Ade Adejumo and Secretary, Dr. Deji Omole, it said the call for Ambali's resignation became imperative following the monumental fraud revealed by an investigative report of The Nation newspaper.

The statement said: "At this point, the union has no option but to call on the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali, to honourably resign his appointment in view of the weight of these allegations, to allow for an independent investigation.
"This is the civilised practice. In the alternative, the union calls on the Ministry of Education and crime authorities to act quickly to avoid any insinuation of complicity."

General Discussion / BREAKING: PROSPECTIVE JAMB CANDIDATES PROTEST IN CALABAR
« Last post by Olaitan9291 on April 05, 2017, 03:47:03 PM »

Following the issue about how stressful is the procedure for 2017 Jamb Registration.

Today ,over 500 prospective candidates of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation
Examination on Wednesday embarked on peaceful protest in Calabar following the poor internet service affecting their registration process for the examination.
The candidates, who started the protest at 7a.m. from the Joint Admissions and
Matriculation Board (JAMB) office on Marian Road, went round Barracks Road and the Millennium Park, before returning to the JAMB office.

The candidates were chanting solidarity songs and held fresh leaves in their hands, while the Police and men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) followed them to prevent break down of law and order.

A candidate, Mr Jeremiah Osibu, said that since the beginning of the registration on March 20, he had not been able to get his Personal Identity Number (PIN) for his registration.

“The process of registration this year has been so difficult. I come to this JAMB office every working day; but till now, I have not been registered,’’ he said.
Also, Miss Comfort Eban, saidthat after paying the N6, 200 fee for the UTME, she had spent more than N8,000 on transportation from her house to JAMB office since March 20.

“I am joining this protest today because we want our leaders and the examination body to do something about it. The 2017 process of registration is too stressful.

“From the look of things, if this registration continues like this in the next few days, thousands of prospective candidates would not be able to sit for this examination,‘’ she said. Mr Richard Onah, who said he came all the way from Ogoja Local Government Area to register for the examination, called on JAMB to extend the registration to capture all prospective candidates.
Efforts made to speak with JAMB officials in the state were not successful as protesters blocked the entrance to the JAMB office.
NAN reports that petty traders were making brisk businesses through the sales of food, sachet water, biscuits and banana, as a result of the delay being experienced by prospective UTME candidates in JAMB office.
